Sculpture of the Season: Physalis

‘In bright orange tones the magnificent ribbed calyxes, having transmuted into oriental lanterns, dangle from the stem of the Chinese lantern plant, Physalis Alkekengi

My inspiration sometimes invites me to embark on a light-hearted,
colourful pas de deux,
so why not take up the challenge?
Amongst all the bronzes I’ve made,
the works I’ve hacked from natural stone,
and, not to forget, the images I have cut in wood,
many of which are featured on the site,
it’s fun from time to time to dance between them all,
in the arms of a partner of an entirely different ilk,
who listens to the name polyester.
An unconventional, not so amenable, rather sticky gent
enveloped in such a special scent,
that you need to open all windows wide
not to be forced to cut short the dance with a headache,
and his glass fibre coat fairly prickles your bare arms.
But the anticipation of the end result
makes me give this pas de deux my all.’
